What is Xeomin®?
Xeomin works by temporarily stopping muscles from contracting, just like BOTOX. In fact, Xeomin is made from the same botulinum toxin type A. The only difference is that BOTOX is formulated with an extra protein, while Xeomin is nothing but the botulinum toxin.
The FDA originally approved Xeomin in August 2010 for two conditions: blepharospasm (eyelid spasms) and cervical dystonia (severe contractions of the neck muscles). One year later, the FDA approved Xeomin for the same uses as BOTOX, namely the treatment of glabellar lines, the lines that form between the eyebrows.
What is Xeomin Most Commonly Used For?
Xeomin is commonly used to treat your crow’s feet, eliminate the wrinkles between your eyebrows and soften the wrinkles in your forehead. Other areas we may treat are the chin, neck and “bunny lines” on the nose and wrinkles above the lip.

There have been few side effects with either Xeomin. Usually, the minor side effects are slight pain with injection, and bruising.
The main negative side effect with Xeomin is an injection into an unintended muscle, creating a drooping eyelid, or cockeyed eyebrows. But thanks to the training and knowledge of the facial anatomy of our injectors at Musick Dermatology, this is not an issue for our patients.
Does Insurance Cover Xeomin?
No, Xeomin treatments are not covered by insurance. However, we do offer multiple financing plans to our patients. Please let our team know if this is something that would be of interest to you.
